Using the 2026 Grand National field (34 runners). This will be updated to the confirmed 2027 line-up once the runners are declared.

In short: add each player above and choose how many horses they get, then hit generate — we'll draw the runners at random. Prefer paper? You can still run it by hand using the steps below. Keep it friendly, keep stakes small, 18+.

Prefer to run it by hand?

  1. Decide the buy-in (e.g. £1 or £2 per slip) and gather your players.
  2. Print the kit and cut out one slip per runner (up to 34).
  3. Fold the slips, put them in a bowl, and have each person draw at random.
  4. Once the field is declared, write each horse's name against the drawn numbers.
  5. Agree the prize split before the race and pay out afterwards.

Suggested prize split

  • 1st place: 70% of the pot
  • 2nd place: 20%
  • 3rd place: 10%
  • Optional: a small prize for "first to fall/pull up", drawn for fun.

Keep it friendly and 18+

A sweepstake is a bit of fun among adults — keep stakes small and make sure everyone taking part is over 18. A printable PDF version of this kit (numbered 1–34, with a named version once the 2027 field is declared) can be added to this page.

Frequently asked questions

How many horses are in a Grand National sweepstake?

Up to 34 — one slip per runner in the declared field. A numbered kit lets you draw before the field is confirmed and add the horse names later.

How should we split the sweepstake prize money?

A common split is 70% to the winner, 20% to second and 10% to third, but you can agree any split before the race.

Is running a sweepstake gambling?

A small, private sweepstake among friends or colleagues is a bit of fun. Keep stakes low, keep it private, and make sure everyone taking part is 18 or over.
